Fondy Heat Junior Robotics Program
Fondy Heat Junior Robotics is a program established by the Fondy Fire team to introduce robotics to Grade School and Middle School students in the Fond du Lac area. The purpose of this is to
- give these students an introduction to robotics technologies,
- challenge them to design, and build their own unique robot from scratch.
Students who participate in this program build their own robot processor from scratch in
workshops held at Moraine Park Technical College. The students will use the processor to
control a small robot that they will also build from scratch. They will then program the
robot to play a game in a competition.
The result of this project is a large group of students who have gotten their first
hands-on experience with technology. Another benefit is that a group of these students
will be coming into the Fondy Fire program that already have some working knowledge of
robots when they come into the FIRST FRC program.
We currently have 75 students participating in the program, with a waiting list for
next semester. The program is open to all students in the greater Fond du Lac area.
Over 250 students have participated in the Fondy Heat program over the past five years. The
format of this program allows us to maximize the quality of the technology
experience for a large number of students.
